According to Windows Service Pack Road Map SP3 now is planned for a 2008 release for both the Home and Professional editions of Windows XP, after the release of Windows Vista, which is scheduled to be available at the end of 2006.

Service packs contains all the security updates, DCRs, and Hotfixes (all updates that resolve issues discovered by customers or by the Microsoft internal testing team). Microsoft released the most recent Windows XP service pack (SP2), in August 2004. It was one of the most significant updates to make Windows more secure.
