With VirusTotal, you can scan your suspicious file online in 3 easy ways:

VirusTotal Website
All you have to do is open a web browser, type in VirusTotal link (http://www.virustotal.com), wait for the whole website to load and then browse for your suspicious file to upload.

VirusTotal Uploader
There is another way easier. Using VirusTotal Uploader, you can right click on any files on your Desktop or My Document and send to VirusTotal. VirusTotal Uploader is a plugin. You will need to download this 76.6KB small plugin for sending samples to VirusTotal. Once installed, you’ll have the “Send to -> VirusTotal” option in the Windows contextual menu when you right-click on a file. Once the file transfer is done, a new page will automatically open on your default web browser.

VirusTotal Firefox Extension
Your third option is download VirusTotal Firefox extension. This extension will open a Firefox browser with just the VirusTotal bar for you to browse and upload your suspicious file. This extension adds a option in “Tools > VirusTotal” in Firefox web browser.
