Ubuntu 7.0.4 (Feisty Fawn) has officially been released and is available to download from the official Ubuntu website. Ubuntu 7.04 is the recommended best version of Ubuntu for anyone who wants to use the best of free software.
“With added features to both the desktop and server editions, Ubuntu 7.04 is the most user-friendly version to date and is ideally suited to anyone who wants to make the switch to Linux and join the community of Ubuntu users. In fact, with this version of Ubuntu, it is easier than ever to move away from proprietary platforms.” said Jane Silber, director of Operations, Canonical Ltd.
Ubuntu is distributed on 3 types of images:
- Desktop CD - install Ubuntu without changing your computer at all
- Server Install CD - install Ubuntu permanently on a computer for use as a server
- Alternate Install CD - allows you to perform certain specialist installations of Ubuntu
Ubuntu 7.0.4 comes with a lot of new features, including data migration from Windows, new and easier ways to install multimedia codecs, binary drivers, as well as networking improvements and of course, GNOME 2.18, the 2.6.20 kernel. The next version on Ubuntu, Gutsy Gibbon is scheduled for release in October of 2007. That is just 6 months from now.
