ADVERTISEMENTS
Nice trick to take the annoying ads on the bottom yahoo messenger 8 application ( Updates Post ). Here is the trick
1. Close Yahoo Messenger.
2. [For Yahoo Messenger 8.0.0.683 or lower]
Save this file (.bat text file) and execute it.
[For Yahoo Messenger 8.0.0.701]
Save this file and execute it. You won’t be able to enter the chat rooms, so if you use this feature, don’t run the patch or downgrade Messenger and run the file from the previous section. To prevent the automatic update, rename yupdater.exe from C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger to yupdater.exe.bak.
After install the patch files, you will see the patch files has modify the register like below:-
If you install new versions of Yahoo Messenger, you’ll have to repeat the steps below, as Yahoo setup rewrites the registry entries.
Open Run – >Regedit, navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ Yahoo\pager\YUrl and create a new string key named Messenger Ad that has the value * (an asterisk).
For Yahoo Messenger 8 b628:
1. Find the file C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\Cache\urls.xml
2. Clear its content and save it (as an empty file).
3. Make the file (urls.xml) Read Only.
4. Download and run the patch from http://kalphegor.googlepages.com/ym8patch.zip
For Yahoo Messenger 8 Beta b508:
Download and run the patch from http://kalphegor.googlepages.com/ym8patch.zip
My Note
Playing windows registry and modify software patch is a dangerous way on windows but if you are a computer geeks, perhaps this trick is worth for trying. The new versions will getting harder to remove the ads and even impossible.
Thks for Gigetek for updating me about the remove yahoo smessenger ads on version 8

Those reg-values don’t even exist here.
Should I create them… and then set them to “*”?
I can’t get any of these “ad blockers” to work with
