Wikia unveiled new free Wiki hosting services call “openserving” which provide free bandwidth, storage and free web space for anyone like hosting their wiki websites. Meanwhile, Openserving is support Google ads which 100 percent of ad revenues to Wikia partners.The only stipulation is that developers link to Wikia’s home site in order to drive ad revenue.

All users on openserving able to write articles and vote for their favorites. Comments can also be rated using a thumbs up or thumbs down icon, and RSS feeds can be imported to create more fresh content.

According Techcrunch, The main purpose of free wiki hosting is to gain more links and traffic drive back to Wikia and gain more popularity. There is no doubt that their business model like Youtube (Guessing only )

“The main thing we’re looking for is that they drive traffic back to Wikia but we’re not just thinking of any link back to the home page, but a content-relevant link,” Wales said. “We’re not just asking for an advertisement but a link for articles and things that are relevant on our wikis.”

Beside that, Wikia is offering the technology from recently-acquired ArmchairGM.com as hundreds of freely licensed software packages to be hosted in the near future. Through a sign-up process on www.OpenServing.com, users can request their own collaborative blogging site on any topic, to be hosted for free by Wikia. In future, Wikia plans to enhance the software with improved usability, spam prevention, and community management.
