It can be easily set up to publish to basic web server space accessed by FTP and there is no need to set up server-side programs like CGI. Interesting review especially the fact that you have taken the effort to compare many of the best online spreadsheets available today including Zoho and the popular Google.

I am interested in how this disruption will play out over the long term. It is my opinion that the feature war is mostly irrelevant in the long term- the key is adoption and serving a new market segment- the non users and the novice users of Excel. [Read more at my blog..]

Here is the interview I had with Hyther Nizam who is the Director of Product management for Zoho Services at AdventNet, and Product Manager of Zoho Sheet and Zoho Creator.

What about combining best of both worlds? Xcellery extends Microsoft Excel with all the advantages of an online spreadsheet. Don’t learn a new tool and keep using Excel powered by Xcellery’s online extension. This all works with zero installation and available for free on http://www.xcellery.com.

This all sounds fantastic in it’s infancy. But does anyone out there know of any web based spreadsheet software/host that supports auto filter? I have a sheet of about 2000 rows by 15 columns and I need some form of data filter…

Good review! I also try to compare different online applications with eachother but not just Spreadsheet program – I want to uninstall everything from my desktop. If you’re interested in my work how it goes – check out my blog.

There are no visualization tools. You can’t graph or chart your data. And there’s none of the conditional formatting that we’ll get with Excel 2007.

  8. Henno Says:

    @km

Nope, it doesn’t support AutoFilter. I, too, miss that feature much.

  9. Steve Kohler Says:

wikiCalc 1.0, the open source wiki spreadsheet
has been released by Dan Bricklin. It is fairly
different from a traditional spreadsheet, but it accomplishes formatted calculated information in an elegant way. See http://danbricklin.com/log/2007_01_25.htm#wikicalc1_0

He mentions a web site named iwoorx.com that has some
simple test drives of wikiCalc as adapted by iwoorx.
The test drives are really just initial teaching tools
for wikiCalc and wiki-ish spreadsheets but some are
pretty cool mashups, and they show users and developers how they were made.

Please let us know what you think.

    Thanks.

Steve Kohler – yes, I am with iWoorx.
