Microsoft released a new build of its forthcoming of Windows Server code-named Longhorn this Thursday. This December Community Technology Preview (CTP) of Windows Server Longhorn is restricted to beta testers. Build number is 6001.16406 released to beta tester via Microsoft Connect.

Longhorn will feature built-in virtualization technology, as well as better management, security and administration features, Microsoft has said.

Microsoft is planning on one more Longhorn Server CTP (possibly in January) before releasing the next major milestone, Beta 3, in the first half of 2007. Microsoft also plans to release the final version of Longhorn in the second half of 2007.
