ADVERTISEMENTS
locr is a new photo hosting services that adds geographical references to photographs. It is a completely new way of organizing photographs using geographical information.
locr enables users to upload photographs to internet communities, add geo-references to photographs such as zip code or city name to set a longitude/latitude, and share them with friends and family. You can then browse other geo-tagged photos by clicking a Google Map.
Its many great features include:
- The ability to find photos again much more easily, giving you a clear overview of your photograph collection, regardless of its size!
- Automatic descriptions are generated for every photo based on geographical information.
- Photos can also be shared with friends and family.

locr is based on photographs with geotags. A geotag provides information about the position at which the photo was taken. Geotags can either be defined manually or automatically via GPS.
When it comes to tagging your photos manually with latitute and longtitude, locr makes it pretty easy too. You just have to pan and zoom around the map until you find your location and the put a marker.
If you want to geotag photos taken with your digital camera then all you have to do is use a GPS receiver/datalogger which continuously stores the position, date and time while you are taking your photos. The GPS receiver data and the digital camera data is then automatically linked together by the locr software. Sony offers a datalogger GPS receiver that allow to geotag photographs with any standard digital camera.
locr has released software for geotagging photos on either a PC or a Symbian-based camera phone. The GPS Photo 1.0 desktop software automatically adds location data from a GPS file to photo metadata. It can also be used to geotag images by clicking on a Google Maps location when GPS data is not available. Photos can be geotagged in batches or singly, and then uploaded from the software to an online locr gallery.

locr is a easy to use for uploading and geo-tagging photos. For geotagging your photos you can either use the locr website, or download and install the locr GPS Photo software. locr GPS Photo software is free, you can download it from http://www.locr.com/downloads.php.
