Hakia (http://www.hakia.com) is the Web’s new “meaning-based” (semantic) search engine with the sole purpose of improving search relevancy and interactivity, pushing the current boundaries of Web search. It uses a more advanced knowledge-gathering system called QDEX, and a ranking algorithm, called SemanticRank to enable semantic analysis of Web pages.

Now, You can add the Hakia search plug-in for short-cut access to the search engine. All you have to do is browse to the Hakia website and click on the dropdown button to the left of the search box to expand the search engine menu and click on “Add hakia Search”.

Hakia ScoopBar

Hakia ScoopBar is an embedded bar in your web browser(just like Google Toolbar). When you perform a search with the Hakia ScoopBar, it keeps the history of search in the search box. When you click to open the search result page, Hakia ScoopBar highlights the text, and automatically positions the highlighted section for easy view.

You can click on the yellow Scoop icon to save the relevant section of the webpage in a local HTML page for future use. It is currently support IE and Firefox web browsers.

Yes hakia is a lot different from the usual search engines. Lets hope it will establish itself. I’ve also blogged about it here:
