Firefox 3.0 Gran Paradiso Alpha 6 Now Available

firefoxlogoThe sixth public alpha build of Firefox 3.0, code named Gran Paradiso has been officially released. Firefox 3 is going to provide a wide range of improvements to performance, stability, web compatibility, security, and several new features.

Some of the changes included with Firefox 3.0 Alpha 6 are:

  • Updated SQLite engine to version 3.3.17
  • Support for site-specific preferences - text size
  • A new Quit dialog box that resolves termination errors
  • Added permanent ‘Restart Firefox’ button to Add-Ons Manager
  • Miscellaneous fixes to download manager including correctly displaying large file sizes
  • Various Places fixes
  • Miscellaneous Gecko 1.9 bug fixes

Mozilla plans to release the first public version of Firefox 3.0 Beta 1 on July 1. According to the updated rollout schedule, Beta 2 will appear in September, and the final release is due sometime before the end of the year. See the schedule for more detail.

Gran Paradiso Alpha 6 is available to download at the Mozilla.org site but bear in mind that it is available for testing purposes only. For more information, read the Mozilla Developer News and the Release Notes.
