The sixth public alpha build of Firefox 3.0, code named Gran Paradiso has been officially released. Firefox 3 is going to provide a wide range of improvements to performance, stability, web compatibility, security, and several new features.

Some of the changes included with Firefox 3.0 Alpha 6 are:

• Updated SQLite engine to version 3.3.17
• Support for site-specific preferences - text size
• A new Quit dialog box that resolves termination errors
• Added permanent ‘Restart Firefox’ button to Add-Ons Manager
• Miscellaneous fixes to download manager including correctly displaying large file sizes
• Various Places fixes
• Miscellaneous Gecko 1.9 bug fixes

Mozilla plans to release the first public version of Firefox 3.0 Beta 1 on July 1. According to the updated rollout schedule, Beta 2 will appear in September, and the final release is due sometime before the end of the year. See the schedule for more detail.
