eyeOS - Build your own Open Source Web Desktop Environment

eyeOS logoeyeOS is an open source web based desktop environment system, commonly known as Web Operating System (Web OS) or Web Office. eyeOS is designed to provide a virtual office in your hands without install anything in the computer and lives in the web browser only.

As eyeOS has come with some basic application like text editor (eyeEdit), calendar management (eyeCalendar), contact list (eyePhones), a file manager (eyeHome) and some widgets such as RSS Reader, a calculator (eyeCalc) and a clock (eyeClock). if you want more application, you can visit EyeApplcations with more eyeOS application can be downloaded if you have an eyeOS Miniserver or Microserver. Beside that, eyeOS also integrated with Games along.

Now you can try or register an account at eyeOS public server whereby there are more than 50000 user which commonly use this public server like below task:-

  • Share files
  • Office tasks - e.g. creating private word documents, using the calendar and agenda. They do this so they can access the files from different computers. One user mentioned that he creates docs at home and then prints them out in the office, using eyeEdit.
  • Upload and download files in places were FTP is not allowed (e.g. the office) and use eyeOS to move files.
  • Chat / IM - eyeMessages (their IM app) has a lot of traffic right now
  • Play games

You also can build your own eyeOS services if you have a server with apache and php to run. The eysOS download is available on two edition:-

  • MiniServer - Complete eyeOS Server for Windows. Includes web server and a browser to use eyeOS. Requires .net framework 2.0
  • MacroServer - Light weight and fast eyeOS server for windows, no external requeriments.

Since eyeOS is Open Source Software, You can modify and redistribute it which it is licensed under the GNU General Public License.
