Mandriva 2008 is now official available for downloading on Mandriva official site. Mandriva 2008 has includes all the latest software and many enhancements over previous Mandriva Linux releases. The most prominent feature is the 3D-accelerated desktop solution Compiz Fusion which allow end user enjoy 3D screening desktop.
Beside that, The Mandriva 2008 is equipped wiht other stable software features like KDE 3.5.7 and new GNOME 2.20 and a solid kernel 2.6.22.9 with fair scheduling support, OpenOffice.org 2.2.1 and Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.6.In addition, Mandriva Linux 2008 also includes Metisse, new network management tool, and Windows documents and settings migration tool.
Mandrive 2008 released come with three editions:-
Mandriva One, A live CD version that contains a choice of KDE or GNOME support. The Mandriva One Live CD version allow you easy and free access to the complete Mandriva Linux 2008 software library and how it works and look like before making any permanent changes to their hard drives. This live CD is more benefit for those who aren’t sure if they’d like to install Mandriva yet.
Mandriva Free is a full-sized traditionally installed system. It’s called Free because it contains only free and open source software, and it can be freely downloaded and used at no charge. It includes a mountain of software, and is a wonderful choice for those who wish to use just open source software or have no problem installing codecs, proprietary drivers, and plugins themselves.
Mandriva Power Pack, A pay Mandriva version which is a complete system, including proprietary graphic, wireless, and other drivers, multimedia codecs, Flash and other plugins, and some commercial software. This Mandriva PowerPack cost €39 for each download and this Mandriva power pack is more suitable for Linux first-timers and those who might need support.
