Few days ago, Google has released Google Desktop 5.5 Beta for Windows XP and Vista that allows you to add gadgets for your desktop and sidebar to personalized iGoogle homepage

With Google Desktop 5.5 Beta, you can you now embed Google Desktop Gadgets right into your iGoogle homepage and lets you easily access to information on your computer from the web. In other word, you can remotely manage and access your desktop PC functionality. You can add gadgets for your desktop and sidebar including the media player or photos gadgets to your personalized iGoogle homepage.
To add Desktop gadgets to your iGoogle homepage, visit Google Content Directory and search for the gadget you like and click on “Add in now” button to add it to your Google Desktop or iGoogle homepage.
The update also improved the side bar, Quick Search Box interface, Outlook indexing and searching functionality, Excel files indexing , and various bug fixes.
Google Desktop 5.5 Beta is currently only available in English for the beta launch. You can download the latest Google Desktop 5.5 from Google Desktop homepage.
