The Hardware-assisted virtualization (HAV) detection tool helps you check if your computer processor supports hardware virtualization. The tool also checks if this feature is enabled on the processor.

Windows Virtual PC and Windows XP Mode, the latest virtual Windows XP environment for Windows 7 that allows you to run Windows XP from your Windows 7 desktop requires processors capable of hardware-assisted virtualization with AMD-V, Intel VT or VIA VT turned on in the BIOS.

To determine whether your PC works with Windows XP Mode:

Step 1. Does my PC have a CPU with support for hardware virtualization?

Download and run the Hardware-Assisted Virtualization Detection Tool

If you receive the message “This computer does not have hardware-assisted virtualization,” your computer does not meet the hardware requirement for Windows Virtual PC

If you receive the message “Hardware-assisted virtualization is not enabled on this computer,” go on to Step 2 below.

If you receive the message “This computer is configured with hardware-assisted virtualization,” download and install Windows Virtual PC and Windows XP Mode.

Step 2. Does my PC BIOS support hardware virtualization, and is it turned on? Instructions to turn on hardware virtualization in your PC BIOS are specific to OEM models. Visit Windows Virtual PC Configure BIOS on how to enable hardware virtualization in the BIOS.

The screenshot above shown if your computer has a HAV capable processor and this feature (HAV setting) is enabled on the processor (from the BIOS). You can install Windows Virtual PC or Windows XP Mode on the supported Windows 7 edition.

Panic Coda is a new web development application for the Mac OS by Panic, the creators of the best FTP client ever (IMO), Transmit. Fans of Transmit will be glad to know that Transmit is basically built right in, making it easy to edit and upload all in one shot.

Coda is an all-in-one FTP client, text editor, preview browser, css editor, terminal, and reference library. You can organize your files using Sites, edit with the text editor, utilize the built in preview functionality, style your pages with the CSS builder and even access Terminal with one click.

FTP Client – Coda uses Panic’s Transmit Turbo engine, making file transfers noticeably faster.

Text Editor – syntax coloring, line numbering, auto completing, block editing, international support, etc.

Preview Mode – Preview in a browser. Safari is selected by default.

CSS Editor – There are 2 editing modes when working on your CSS. In visual mode, you’ll get convenient GUI controls that let you edit your style sheets with point and click simplicity. With text mode, your CSS styles are organized and you can edit the details, hard-core style, directly.

Terminal – real time some files directly on the server using the built in Transmit FTP engine.

Books – It includes HTML, CSS, Javascript, and PHP reference books all for easy reading.

Coda has a beautiful interface and fast in loading. And it is a great application for someone just do HTML/CSS and not so much programming. Too bad, Coda only runs on Mac OSX 10.4 and higher. You can download the trial version of Panic Coda here.

Haiku formerly known as OpenBeOS has now got its first distribution. The distribution is called GNU/Haiku 0.1.0 and is being released by Pingwinek.

Pingwinek also releases Pingwinek GNU/Linux, and their Haiku distribution includes the base Haiku system, the GCC 2.95.3 compiler, several simple games, SDL, Midnight Commander, and ncurses. It also includes 40 packages ported from the Pingwinek GNU/Linux distribution. The GNU/Haiku distribution can be installed on an HDD or run under QEMU or VMWare. There is also a LiveCD made available for download. The LiveCD boots slowly but the games work much better then running under QEMU or VMWare.

Haiku is not a Linux distribution. It is a self-contained operating system that includes a graphical user interface tightly tied to a unique graphics system, all configuration applications, development tools, the GNU tool chain, and a bash terminal.

You can download the distribution here. The Haiku operating system is still in alpha state and this distribution doesn’t have an installer which could install system on a hard disk. Take a look at the screenshots of the distribution working on a real hardware.
