DiskInternals Linux Reader is a free and easy-to-use tool to get access to Linux files from Windows. This program plays the role of a bridge between your Windows and Ext2/Ext3 Linux file systems and allows you to browse Ext2/Ext3 Linux file systems and extract files from there.

DiskInternals Linux Reader provides for read-only access and does not allow you to make records in Ext2/Ext3 file system partitions. This guarantees that the interference in an alterative file system will not affect the work of Linux later. Apart from this, it is necessary to note, that it gives you an opportunity to use common Windows Explorer for extracting data. A preview option for pictures is one more pleasant point, which is worth mentioning.

For read and write access to the Ext2/Ext3 file system, Paragon ExtBrowser (which we have previously mentioned) is the tool where you can read, write, modify, create, delete files and folders under Windows.

While saving, it ignores file security policies. It means that it is possible to access absolutely any file on a Linux disk from Windows. The program can create and open images of Ext2/Ext3 disks.

Windows itself does not have any support for non-Microsoft filesystems, to gain access to files and documents from one system to other, a special driver is needed. Here is a program called Paragon ExtBrowser that will enable you to work with Ext2FS or Ext3FS partitions from Windows. It utilizes the Windows Name Space Shell Extension mechanism, you simply click to access ExtFS files from a special unmapped folder in My Computer.

With Paragon ExtBrowser, you can work with a Linux native file system using Windows. Just plug in your hard disk with ExtFS partitions to your PC via eSATA or USB-to-SATA and you can instantly modify files on Linux partition without installing special drivers.

Paragon ExtBrowser Key Features:

Easy to install

Fast and transparent access to Ext2FS/Ext3FS under Windows

Special unmapped folder in My Computer (Explorer) to open ExtFS partitions, where you can read, write, modify, create, delete files and folders under Windows.

Better stability with less risk to your system because there is no need to install a separate kernel mode driver

Import/Export files and folders from/to ExtFS partitions. For example, if the hard drive is taken from NAS storage and you need to open a Linux partition and copy from it or place a new file there, ExtBrowser eliminates the need to install the hard drive or configure it for network access. Simply connect a hard drive via the eSATA connector or USB-to-SATA adapter to the PC and access your files

Open documents and multimedia directly from ExtFS partitions. If you want to watch movies or open large documents contained on a Linux partition, simply connect the drive directly to the PC to get instant access

Download Paragon ExtBrowser here. It works with Windows 7, Vista and XP.

Xivta, Amazing Linux distro that having similar interface like Windows Vista. Actually VIXTA is develop from Fedora based Linux Distribution and KDE desktop environment. It have resembles Microsoft Windows Vista with all the user friendly & eye catching features on Vixta GUI interfaces. Some example like Vista Gadget and vista start menu and taskbar interfaces

Well the aim of Vixta is pretty much simple, and this is how it reads :

Vixta.org is a Fedora-based Linux distribution designed to be user-friendly and eye-catching, similar in look and feel to Windows Vista. Trying to bring linux to the “masses”, not just sysadmins.

if you thinking to run windows application, you might require to turn on the wine windows API to run windows application. But basically Vixta linux distro has bundle application with Konqueror instead of Explorer, OpenOffice instead of Office, and Firefox which is sufficient for novices user.

However, Using the name ” vixta ” and similarity of interfaces perhaps will bring lawsuit from microsoft. Just don’t know whether the vixta linux distro project will be continue for long periods or not ?

This Linux ubuntu e-magazine is a released by ubuntu community themself and translated under six languages : English, Russian, Spanish, Galician, Dutch and Indonesian. Beside that, Full circle magazine also invite any person to translate the ubuntu e-magazine into other languages.

If you are interested to be the translator, you can join the translation team and release this magazine in your national language and you can distribute this magazine for your country.

Myself also download one copy to study and as references. I believe more related information about ubuntu will be publish under full circle magazine in future.

It is a great solution to those not wanting to setup partitions or deal with learning how to partition a hard drive.

With Wubi, you can test the new operating system, Ubuntu 7.04 while keeping your old one intact. Wubi adds an entry to the Windows boot menu which allows you to run Linux. Ubuntu is installed within a virtual disk file in the windows file system (c:\wubi\disks\system.virtual.disk), this file is seen by Linux as a real hard disk.

Wubi comes with a robust suite of Linux applications and utilities (the same stuff that comes with Ubuntu). Wubi is beta and it is free, you can download the it from http://cutlersoftware.com/ubuntusetup/latest.html. For more information, visit the Wubi Guide.

Haiku formerly known as OpenBeOS has now got its first distribution. The distribution is called GNU/Haiku 0.1.0 and is being released by Pingwinek.

Pingwinek also releases Pingwinek GNU/Linux, and their Haiku distribution includes the base Haiku system, the GCC 2.95.3 compiler, several simple games, SDL, Midnight Commander, and ncurses. It also includes 40 packages ported from the Pingwinek GNU/Linux distribution. The GNU/Haiku distribution can be installed on an HDD or run under QEMU or VMWare. There is also a LiveCD made available for download. The LiveCD boots slowly but the games work much better then running under QEMU or VMWare.

Haiku is not a Linux distribution. It is a self-contained operating system that includes a graphical user interface tightly tied to a unique graphics system, all configuration applications, development tools, the GNU tool chain, and a bash terminal.

You can download the distribution here. The Haiku operating system is still in alpha state and this distribution doesn’t have an installer which could install system on a hard disk. Take a look at the screenshots of the distribution working on a real hardware.
