Better GMail – A Firefox Extension for Gmail Enhancements

Better Gmail is a Firefox extension that brings all sorts of extra goodness to Gmail with a compilation of the best Greasemonkey Gmail enhancements from several Greasemonkey scripters, including Mihai Parparita, Ming (Amos) Zhang, norcimo and Moktoipas into one extension.

A comprehensive suite of Gmail enhancements, including skins, saved searches, keyboard macros, secure access, attachment icons, attachment reminders, label colors, signature floating and more.

Better Gmail bundles several useful scripts all in one handy, easy-to-use package, and you don’t actually need Greasemonkey installed to use it. Even better, you can turn each script off or on for complete control over your Gmail experience.

Better Gmail adds a menu of optional extra features to Gmail. To view the enabled features and the information, click on Better Gmail’s Preferences dialog in Firefox’s Add-ons dialog.

Better Gmail includes:

  • Conversation Preview: shows a preview bubble with a conversation contents while viewing the list of messages (i.e. without requiring navigation to another page)
  • Fixed Font Toggle: adds a font toggle button so that messages can be viewed in a fixed-width font
  • Label Colors: allows labels to be colored so they stand out more.
  • Macros: adds more keyboard shortcuts (for marking messages as read, moving them to the trash, applying labels, etc.)
  • Google Reader Integration: adds a ‘Feeds’ links in the navigation area that opens up an embedded instance of Google Reader
  • Saved Searches: lets you save search queries so you can re-run them easily
