AirSnare – Free Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) for Network Security

  ADVERTISEMENTS

AirSnare is a free intrusion detection systems (IDS) that monitors network traffic for unfriendly MAC addresses and alerts you when a MAC address is found that isn’t on the friendly list.  AirSnare also monitor DHCP requests from clients. If AirSnare detects an unfriendly MAC address you have the option of tracking the MAC address’s access to IP addresses and ports or by launching Ethereal upon a detection.

ASScreen

All hardware has a unique MAC address associated with it, including your PC adapter card. This MAC address can be added to access control list in the wireless router. Only devices added to the router’s access control list are allowed to be connected.

The AirSnare screen may turn RED as it discovers new unfriendly MAC addresses. Any traffic sent from that MAC address to the network will be logged in the Unfriendly MAC Watch Window (see to the top right) for you to determine if the MAC address really is Unfriendly or if you just perhaps missed a device on your network somewhere.

You can download AirSnare from here. For more on how to use AirSnare, read the AirSnare Users Guide.
